FINALLY! PAINTED BAR CHAIRS

Yup they're finally done....(actually they've been upstairs for a couple of weeks but haven't had a chance to create a post on them....), the dreaded kitchen bar stools that hubby asked me to paint and I happily agreed to take on remembering how easy the dining chairs had been see that post here are finished.
Here they are before
And here they are down in the basement waiting to be painted
Now I don't have any of the actual paint process...but I can tell you it was painfully slow and tough...see those lovely craftsman style spindles?
8 of them on each chair and then there are another 6 on either side along the bottom
Anyway...there are lots and lots actually 80 in all...with 4 sides a piece...phew!!! and let's not count the legs etc... Sanding, painting, sanding (aging), staining and two coats of poly later...
Close up
I am happy they are done...really happy!
Thanks for visiting,
Hugs,
Mandy

NEW PAINTED DINING ROOM CHAIRS

Although you have already seen these chairs in a couple of my previous posts featuring the new dining room wall colors this past summer see here and my fall vignettes see here, I thought I would create a post just for them...especially with the holidays coming up .

Anyway, here is our dining room set prior to the transformation. It is a basic, solid oak table that has several leaves which is ideal for family get togethers.
The day I painted my kitchen mantle,
I grabbed one the of the dining armchairs and gave him a quick coat as well. I loved the way he looked and immediately placed him in the hearth area where he popped against the brick back ground.
So late in August, I dragged all six of the the armless chairs out to the garage and proceeded to clean, sand, wipe, paint, sand some more, and finished them off with two coats of polyurethene.
..trying to hide the doggie gnaws and bites....
and here too....
Here's the culprit....caught napping....and she only chewed when she was a puppy ....thank goodness!
So here you can see the end result. I like how the black chairs "ground" the space.
Now I still have the armchair to paint before Thanksgiving!!

Thanks so much for stopping by,
Hugs,
Mandy

COOL PAINTED LADDER BACK CHAIR

A COOL PAINTED LADDER BACK CHAIR

Before I start on today's blog I would like to thank Pam over at http://becolorful.typepad.com/ for featuring my earlier blog on Liz's desk see here over at her party "Motivated Monday" , Thanks Pam!

Now continuing from my post on my friend's Liz's family room reveal, today I am featuring one of 4 ladder back chairs Liz painted to match her desk, see that post here

This is what one of chairs looked liked prior to painting:
We came up with an idea of featuring all 4 of the colors from the desk on each chair. Taupe (on desk top, not seen here), green, gold and brick red.
Here is the "Brick Red" chair after:
Here are some close up pictures of her work:
Here it is up against her desk...
Isn't it cool? And didn't she do a great job?

Now, "Lizzie Poo" is one busy lady. She is a successful real estate agent here in town (she is also my real estate agent!), she has two teenage children, a super husband and a sweet doberman dog named Maddie! So there isn't a lot of "down" time in her life. Subsequently you will have to wait little longer to view the other 3 ladderback chairs, but she is working on them when she can as her goal is to have them all done for Thanksgiving.

There's more to come in another post!

Mandy

GREAT ROOM REVEAL!

GREAT ROOM REVEAL!

One of my closest friends, Liz, recently downsized from a good size 5 bedroom home to a 3 bedroom townhouse. She's had to make many decisions regarding what furniture to keep, what to eliminate and what new furniture to buy.
Here she is stuffed into the back seat of my car after the Decorator's sale! See that post here
Like us all, or at least some of us, Liz is on a tight budget and she and I have brainstormed ideas on how to furnish her townhouse using what she has first.

Today, I am featuring her great room. This is a large rectangular room with lots of light. It is a hardworking room and needs to fulfill the needs of a dining room, living room and office space!

One of her new purchases was a sofa and armchair.
Taking inspiration from the colors of the armchair....
she took the plunge and painted her desk and filing cabinets!
And what a transformation! Isn't it awesome??
She even painted the hardware!
Check back soon and see other transformation she and I made to her home!
Hugs,
Mandy

EASY DECOUPAGE TABLE

Glass top tables are attractive enough but they are a pain to keep clean, at least that's what I think! Seems that no matter how much you clean, wipe, dig into the corners, you always end up with glass smears...I know I'm a perfectionist....but those little imperfections bother me!

I had this side table that matched the sofa and armchair in our sunroom, never could get it perfect!
This picture was taken one Christmas which explains the Santa figurine and snow on the ground outside!!!

I found a piece of cardboard that fits the underside of the glass piece perfectly. Grabbed my scrap booking paper, an old book, my box of labels, some pressed leaves, glue and ....
came up with this:

The cardboard piece slides under the glass and is held by the framing of the table.
I may add some old pics too, in time, when I get around to it....ha!!!
Fun, attractive and practical at the same time...
And QUICK!
Hugs,
Mandy
