FABRIC SCRAPS AND A GOODWILL FRAME

Okay, I have to apologize because I do not have any tutorial pics on this...sorry :( It was a quickie job and knowing me, the urge hit me and I went for it...no prep just make a mess and GO!!

So, I got this frame ages ago...more like years ago!! The glass was long gone.
I had some fun fabric scraps left over from various projects and decided to "do something" with these "unwanted" items!
Grabbed the frame, took the back off, placed some batting on the the backing and glued down strips of fabrics.

Put everything back together and voila!!!
Oh! the little fairy guy was in my "decoupage" stash...too fun eh??
This piece hangs on the wall as you enter my den..
Thanks so much for stopping by,

PAINTED FILING CABINET FOR LIZ

A painted filing cabinet for Liz's great room

Yes, there is one more item to show from all the projects completed in my close friend, Liz's great room... click hereherehere and here to see all the posts on what we have accomplished thus far!

Well, I haven't shown you her filing cabinet.
Imagine this cabinet to be your basic light maple wood  two drawer filing friend.
Very practical, very necessary but an eyesore.

A little black paint,
a little red paint and some stenciling,
some sanding and waxing and voila!:
Isn't it cute?
By placing two of her painted ladder back chairs either side of it and setting a chess board on top it now also plays the role of  game table!
It's nice isn't it?

Mandy

NEW DINING CHAIR SLIP COVERS AND SEATS.

NEW DINING CHAIR SLIP COVERS AND SEATS.

Liz wanted a fresh look for her dining chairs. Painting the set was not a choice so  I suggested recovering the chair seats and making some covers for the backs.

The chairs are fairly petite. Not wanting a busy look we talked about linens and drop cloths and burlap. Liz produced some old linen monogrammed napkins that had belonged to her great grandmother. And I took them home and started brain storming.

Now I can sew but have never made slip covers before so this was quite the learning experience for me too...

I decided to keep things simple. I had some complimentary stripe fabric on hand in two different tones, one a dark stripe and one a tan stripe and used them to add a little color and interest to each chair.
For the seat, I used some drop cloth (washed twice and ironed) and sewed on a large band of the dark stripe material.
For the backs, I decided I wanted to use the napkin embroidered initials as well as the stripe material. I cut out the monogram part of the napkin
and sewed it the center of the one of the sides of the slip cover.
I then took the stripe material and sewed a band to the top  of the chair cover and added a wooden bead from a piece of trim.
And here is a dark stripe chair with the back facing forward
Liz had one armchair that required a little different cover.
I basically left the sides open and added some stripe fabric to the sides. Then I made ties out of extra drop cloth fabric and attached them so that they tied under each arm.
Turned out great didn't they?
Thanks so much for visiting!

Mandy

KITCHEN SPEAKERS

We have quite a bit of exposed brick in our kitchen.
Over on the hearth wall
And over the gas cook top
We have surround sound throughout the house and every room has a speaker except for the formal 1/2 bath!! Built-in wall speakers usually come in your choice of white or white (or at least they did when we built this house 11 years ago!!) and they stood out horribly on the brick.
So one day I got out the paints, found a natural sponge and a small brush and off I went! This little project happened way before my blogging days so no before or during pics, sorry.
Basically, I sponged on the the various paint colors to create a close enough finish to the bricks surrounding the speakers, then I painted in the grout lines and added some shading to make them look as realistic as possible.
Can you see the speakers? Well I know you can, there's one in the upper right corner of this pic and the other is just peeking out from behind that chair. Better than two white rectangles aren't they?
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hugs,
Mandy

KITCHEN MANTLE

This is the hearth area in our kitchen.
I love the brick wall.
Here's another shot of the hearth area showing the built in painted entertainment cabinet.
I always felt the mantle got a little lost on the the brick wall and then I had a thought....now that's a dangerous thing!~!! I'm going to paint it!
And that is just what I did. I went ahead and painted it black and then distressed it and finished it with rub on finishing wax. Wow, I lurrrvv it!

Here are some close ups....
It just looks like it was always supposed to be painted black! And it has taken me 10 years to figure that out...oh well....

Love comments, so spare a sec and leave me one!

Mandy

EMPTY FRAMES?

"Birds do it, Bees do it, everybody in the blogging world's doing it, let's do it, let's fall in love.....with empty frames !?!"

Yup, I got the bug people....didn't do a big mural wall that is so popular at the mo' (that will have to wait for the next house....) it's simplify in this one at the mo' 'cos we are trying to sell it.

Anyway, had some "el-cheapo" photo frames hanging around and I just painted them a bone color (something I already had) and stained them and then played around with them....result is I have them in several places.....
On the living room mantle
In the living room bureau

In the master bedroom bookcase

And in the front hallway

The little pictures are actually of my 5 kids all taken around the age of 1 to 3 years. The little floral frames were originally very colorful but with this idea I thought that their shape and texture looked better with my empty frames.
Empty frames are fun, cheap and add a touch of architectural element to your space, try it :)

Hugs for now,
Mandy
